After a shooting has occurred people often make mistakes in
dealing with police and crime scene.
-
Do not "improve the crime scene" by dragging the body
inside the house. Forensics will prove that you tampered with
the evidence and even if you were innocent you will be guilty of tampering.
-
Do not make statements to the police other than giving your identity.
You were under stress at the time of the shooting and your ability to
observe what happened was poor. Also you will tend to make statements
that will be used against you later. You will almost always be
arrested. Do not try to talk yourself out of it and end up talking
yourself into prison.
-
Do not leave the scene. This makes you look guilty. Instead have someone call 911 and report that
you were attacked (presuming that you were surely attacked) and wait for the
responding unit. What is said during the 911 call is recorded and may
be used against you later.
