When a person is forced to use deadly force and
deadly weapons in self defense both
physiological and
psychological factors and
subconscious training take over and often control how the incident will turn
out.
When a person is under extreme stress such as when
he is forced to use deadly force and deadly weapons there are Physiological
changes to the body. A flood of chemicals race to physiologically change
how the person will react increasing strength and speed. These chemicals
also change psychological responses and contribute to the choice to fight, run
or hide. This flood of chemicals happens in a very short period of time.
Still the aggressor normally already has these chemicals in his or her body for
some time giving them an advantage of time over the person that must react to
the attack.
While under attack a person may become cold, heart
rate will increase, breathing and blood circulation will change and a number of
factors occur. Also not every person will react in the same manner
physiologically. One of the most extreme physiological reactions
happened when an armed robber in was confronted by a citizen who drew his weapon
in self defense and attempted to fire his weapon in the face of the robber.
The cartridge failed to detonate and the robber fell dead from the stress of the
fright.
